I've written this post because I think some of you may be interested in a developers thought's behind such remake projects. I have the tools, I have the knowledge and I have the time. So my current goal is a game engine for the first EoB, working on all current platforms. And understanding the results.thats the hardest part, at least for me. Mostly doing research and reverse engineering. Oh, and DrMcCoy is right - even remaking a "simple" game like Eye of the Beholder is a loooot of work. As it was not developed by Westwood the entire structure is very different to EoB 1 + 2. So I don't have to start at zero again.īy the way, EoB 3 is a whole other story then the first two parts of the series. However, the knowledge I earned by doing this project is something I already have. As much as I love EoB 2 I need to figure out some basic stuff I never really got years ago when developing Spectalum. But I've learned a lesson or two in the last 6 years. So I feel a strong "do it" deep inside me. Well, I'm dreaming again about a platform independent remake of the EoB series and I dont have read about any fitting project up to today. I was browsing this board because I was looking for an existing EoB port (and I'm damn impressed with the ScummVM LoL implementation by the way). Well, we all learn over time.and the project is still opensource. I did so many mistakes during the development process (my first.and last.C++ project) that at one point I've seen no chance anymore finishing the engine. And the bad news first: yes, the project has been abandoned. That makes WASD be forward/back and turning, and Q and E for strafing.Im the guy behind the above mentioned Spectalum project. This only really matters when characters (as far as I've noticed anyway), so its pretty optional. Eye Ray: The beholder uses one random eye ray. The beholder regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. since I made key "a" actually send button press keypad 7 to the game, I made keypad 7 send A to the game. The beholder can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. I also advise you to go ahead and remap the keypad to the letters you used for movement. I would love to move the movement keys to the standard AWSD. Unbanked American households hit record low numbers in 2021. Yea I can't move the keyboard further to the left because of space. See if remapping certain keys might help. Alternatively, DOSBox has a keyboard mapper which can be configured. Make you you click save when you are done, else you'll need to do this every time you play. Use the left hand on the mouse and the right hand on the numeric keypad. Repeat as necessary for the rest of your keys. Now click on next untill you see it say BIND: key again, and click delete. Now if you click next it should scroll through BIND: key and key. In my case it was number pad 7 for WASD controls. So you click on a, and it tells you on the bottomĬlick on Add, and it will ask you to press the button you with to bind to A. Once the remapper is active in your dosbox window you clickd on the key you wnat to physically press. (Or at least different from other emulators I've used. (Still, i'm like 90% sure that dosbox will just genrate a new mapping file with default values when its run).Īs for the remapping itself, I found it somewhat counter intuitive. Is there an easy way to reset the key mapper? Old topic, but I'll say what I know in case OP is still looking for answers.Īs far as defaulting the keymapper, I think thats a matter of finding the keymapping file and deleting it? Check the dosbox website before you do that. Also looks like A and Q got messed up some how. I hit ctrl-F1 and bound AWSD to my number pad keys. I assume I'm doing it correctly but I can't be totally sure. So I opened up Dosbox and tried it but it still doesn't work in game. The reason why this is separated from the ASE for EOBs 1 and 2 is that EOB3 uses a different game engine and there isnt that much known about it. Cbarchuk: EDIT: Okay I found some documentation in my eye of the beholder folder on how to remap keys. The All-Seeing Eye 3 This is an automapper for the GOG-version of SSIs Eye of the Beholder 3.
